Kevin Burns is our newest Safety Specialist and we’re excited to introduce you to him. He’s a recent graduate of Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in Safety Management.
Kevin’s interest in safety was sparked as a high school student when he met Slippery Rock’s Safety Management Chair, Dr. Joseph Cali, at a college fair. At Slippery Rock, he was actively involved in the American Society of Safety Professionals, served in various leadership positions in Greek life and studied abroad for six months in London.
Prior to joining Safex, Kevin completed an EHS internship at Superior Construction in Orlando, Florida. He provided safety support to a site as they constructed a large mile stretch of highway including several bridges. While learning about the hazards of civil construction, Kevin helped to improve site safety, culture and conducted environmental audits and managed erosion control. Be sure to ask him about the Florida wildlife that posed unique job hazards.
“I’ve learned that you can’t sit in a trailer and be effective at safety. I’m the kind of guy who will crawl into the mud to introduce myself with a handshake. That’s the way you earn respect and trust,” Kevin shares.
The diversity of work and hands-on nature of safety is what he enjoys the most about safety. You can look forward to meeting Kevin if you work with Safex for on-site safety audits and respirator fit testing.
Kevin hails from Cleveland and in his free time you’ll find him playing tennis, exercising and experiencing new things. He also recently adopted a rescue cat named Mushroom.
